Providing USA- Certified Hand Therapy care to ADULT and PEDIATRIC populations. Includes thorough evaluation, plan of care, and treatment of diagnoses related to the upper limb including, but not limited to: orthopedics (i.e. weakness, fractures, amputations, trauma, sprains, tendonitis), arthritis (i.e surgeries, pain management, swelling, inflammation), nerve (carpal tunnel and other related conditions), congenital and complex injuries. Provides customized orthoses (splints/braces), and Certified Kinesio Taping application.
Currently provides TeleHealth (Virtual) Therapy Services, available for speaking engagements on Hand Therapy, Preventive Care and Ergonomics.
Carla Suarez Reyes-Cuerva is a licensed Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) and Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) with 20 years of USA-based training and work experience in the evaluation and treatment of the hand and upper extremity for adults and children. Currently, the Hand Therapy Certification Commission states Carla as the only Certified Hand Therapist in the Philippines, and is one of the rare few CHTs in all of Southeast Asia.
Before recently relocating back to Manila, Philippines, she last worked with renowned surgeons at Brown University- University Orthopedics (Rhode Island, USA) along with a talented team of Certified Hand Therapists serving the New England area. She also worked as local medic for the 2016 USA Gymnastics Association Olympic Qualifying Nationals. Prior to this, Carla practiced in a hospital-based outpatient therapy in California for a decade, and was a part of the rehabilitation and healing of patients of all ages and backgrounds. Pursuing her specializations for both hands and pediatrics, she then spent several years at Valley Children’s Hospital Central California, which is ranked as one of the top Children’s Hospitals in the United States by the US News and World Report.
Carla’s clinical interests include conservative and post surgical rehabilitation of the wrist and hand for both the adult and pediatric population, which includes custom orthosis fabrication. She works closely with referring doctors, and focuses on her clients’ functional goals. She is also a strong advocate for wellness and prevention education.
Now back and licensed to practice in her hometown, Carla leads HandTherapyPH, aiming to promote this specialized field of practice, increase awareness and prevention, and deliver hand therapy services. A graduate of Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of the Philippines in 2000, she has presented on hand therapy at the national organization level for Occupational Therapy, and has a vision of contributing to its growth in her home country.
